Welcome to STRETCH 2011!

Adventure Team Challenge Race, Mountain Climbing and No Barriers USA Festival with Erik Weihenmayer.

June 24 - July 1, 2011

We are so excited for the opportunity to have Erik Weihenmayer, the only blind man to ever summit Mount Everest, to lead this year's Stretch Expedition. 

You will participate in a three-day multi-sport race with abled and disabled teammembers.  You will mountain bike, whitewater raft, zip line, climb, and rappel through the mountains and wilderness of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  All this through the blind eyes of Erik, one of the most accomplished athletes in the world.

After you push your abilities to the limit in this race, you will take a day to relax in the scenic Cottonwood hot springs near Leadville, CO. 

Next will be a climb to the highest peak of the Rocky Mountains, the 14,400 foot, Mt. Elbert.  No Barriers founder, Mark Wellman is the first paraplegic athlete to climb the 3,200 foot vertical face of El Capitan, and Mark will ascend Mt. Elbert on a specially designed off-road handcycle.  This first in history ascent will be a team effort to reach the top together.  This climb will be filmed and edited for the No Barriers Festival. 

The last leg of the Expedition will be held at the No Barriers Festival in Winter Park, CO, where we will volunteer and participate (optional) in an event that focuses on "shattering the barriers" through land and water-based activities and fascinating symposiums which defy our notions of what is possible.  This festival brings together innovators, technologists, athletes, teachers, professionals, outdoor enthusiasts, and seekers -- people who are "pushing the envelope" in their chosen fields.  Visit nobarriersusa.com for more information.
