Welcome to STRETCH 2010!

Medical Clinic Construction in the Amazonian village called Esperanza

We are so excited to be teaming up with Jodi Nelson of Play it Forward and Angels of Amazon to participate in the construction project which will improve the medical facilities available to the people of the village of Esperanza ("hope").

Join us on this unforgettable excursion into the Peruvian Amazon forest, where the help you bring to the community will last long after we leave the village.

We will be staying at Tahuayo Lodge, voted one of the ten best wilderness lodges in the world by Outside Magazine.  More details to come, so stay tuned!

High-Level Tentative Itinerary (June 17-26, 2010):

17-June-10:  Depart from Minneapolis.  Arrive and stay overnight in Lima, Peru. 

18-June-10:  Amazon bound!  Fly to Iquitos to catch a river ferry to a lodge deep within the Amazon Jungle.  Meet a native shaman.

19-June-10:  Let the service begin!  Meet the medical practitioner and residents of Esperanza before beginning construction of an addition to their medical clinic.  Afternoon wildlife excursion.

20-June-10:  Service heats up!  Continue construction of the clinic.  Play soccer with villagers.  Nighttime caymen hunting.

21-June-10:  Service continues!  Work groups rotate through specific construction projects.

22-June-10:  Swim in Dolphin Lake!  Morning excursion and swimming in Dolphin Lake.  Afternoon construction in Esperanza.

23-June-10:  Complete the clinic!  Canoe a flooded forest in the morning.  Complete finishing touches of the clinic in the afternoon.  Prepare for "Festival of Waters".

24-June-10:  Festival of San Juan!  Participate in an annual Amazonian holiday, "Festival of Waters".

25-June-10:  Closing ceremony!  Celebrate with a "minga", a community party, in Esperanza.  Nighttime farewell fiesta at the lodge.

26-June-10:  Say farewell!  Morning excursion.  Return to Iquitos and Lima to catch your return flight.  Say farewell to Peru.
