Date: Mar 2, 2010
Details:

ABOUT THE SESSION

More and more, a gap exists between leadership and teams. With each focused on different priorities and their own goals, they often move in different directions and speak different languages. Leaders may seem out-of-touch, employees may seem unengaged and uninspired.

Join Tom Kuhn as he shares new perspectives on familiar topics such as metrics, planning, communication, and execution. He will introduce ideas that will ignite teams and leaders to be more engaged and focused. Learn about Tom's Unity Model which combines creative and business tools and practices resulting in measureable results - to both employee engagement and the bottom line.

Tom will share case studies and stories from his most recent work, and tell you how you can apply insights gleaned from this work to your situation.

During this session you'll learn:

  • Why Unity is your highest ROI
  • How and why to use ‘design to align'
  • How simplicity and the QxQ measurement model will help identify and quantify your best opportunities
  • The three new ‘rules of engagement'
  • Why old communication methods don't work anymore, especially when working with creative professionals
  • Three lessons hairstylists have to teach business leaders

Finally, as an inspirational close, he'll use photos from his ShadowMan collection to offer lessons for business leaders and teams.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Tom Kuhn transforms salon-industry leaders and their teams so they can "Do what they love, make more money, and have a life." Using his rare blend of creative and business talents, he has designed a Unity Model with training, tools, and practices that generate measurable results - to both employee engagement and the bottom line.

Tom began his career as a CPA after receiving a business degree with highest distinction from the University of Iowa. He worked as a CPA with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Lurie Besikof Lapidus & Co. and as a sole practitioner.

After 13 years as a CPA, he moved to the salon and spa industry, becoming a respected leader at companies such as Aveda, TKO Services (his own consultancy), and later as President and co-owner of JUUT SalonSpa. JUUT is Aveda's original salon and largest customer in the world, and employs 400 "daymaker" employees with eight locations in Minnesota and California. He was also CEO for a global brand of Hair & Skin Care products based in New York City and was honored to be a Guest Critic for the prestigious Parsons School of Design.

Through these varied roles, Tom has been a keen observer of teams and how Unity impacts the profitability, culture, and competitive edge of organizations. From these observations, he crafted a series of training, tools, and practices that build and enhance teams, closing the gap that often exists between business leaders and teams.

Today, Tom is owner of Qnity, a management consulting firm that works with clients such as JCPenney Salons, Sport Clips, HealthPartners and other leaders in the professional beauty and wellness industries. With his current clientele, his work impacts more than 20,000 salon professionals at more than 1,600 locations. Tom's unique tools are highly visual, simple, and actionable. Using these tools result in increased team Unity, which he believes is the highest ROI for every business.

He is also a speaker, photographer, husband, and father of two children.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

“I've had several operating companies from Otter Tail work with the Prouty Project over the past few years. Each time, the Prouty process led us to more frank, open, and direct discussions on our company's strategy in a much more concise and efficient manner than we could ever do on our own."
